Nearly two decades of experience in both the wine and restaurant business, as well as a love and passion for wine, lead to this new venture for owner Maria Pezzella and Chef Andrea Tiberi.
Maria was co-owner of the ever-popular "Le Streghe" on West Broadway and Grand for 16 years. She was one of the first people to represent international wines, working to introduce a broader palette of the world’s selections at a time when American wine lists were still very limited.
Andrea is a chef and co-founder of Eatalian Style Corporation (www.eatalian.net), founded in 2000 to promote the art of Italian cooking and gastronomy throughout the world via practice workshops, interactive lessons, festivals, and other events for professional chefs as well as the public. As an ambassador of traditional Italian cuisine, he has been the guest chef at the Italian Embassy and is the Chef of Choice for the Italian Language Inter-Cultural Alliance.
Together, the duo converted an old sign shop in the East Village into a serene tasting space and worked to create a wine list, both unique and superior. Their offerings include tried and true favorites, as well as wines that will expose their clientele to often under-represented yet wonderful wine regions such as those in Bulgaria and Greece.
The list includes almost two dozen selections by the glass, and will soon include a special signature wine, made especially for Cellar 58.
The menu, crafted by Andrea, presents creative and classic Italian tapas and entrees to be enjoyed with their wines as a perfect complement.
